Why Mindfulness Matters!

Why Mindfulness Matters!

It's really simple, less complicated that we think.
Most of the population is on automation.
We do not THINK, we REACT!
MOST of us on this planet are in the MATRIX, and don't even know it!

No need to beat up on yourself about it.
It is what it is.
Good thing, it doesn't have to stay that way!
We really are in control!
We just have to take the time to remind ourselves
of the goodness, the greatness, the awesomeness
we possess!

We are poisoned daily with so much negativity, it's easy
to get sucked into that energy!

Point:
While driving, get into the slow lane and just become aware
of how fast others are zooming past you.
Drivers will even honk their horns at you in the slow lane!
Don't believe me try it!

If you're walking, slow down.
Notice others zooming past you.
Will walk fast to get around you, some may even bump into you,
or tell you to get out of their way!

All mindLESSness behavior.
It's all about the individual's needs, not the community!
Problem is, we've forgotten who we are.

We've forgotten that we are a village,
no matter how media/world divides us into
socio-economics, education,  etc.

We are amazing individuals who can do so much more
together, than we can ever do apart!
Hurricane Harvey is teaching us that!
We can come together as a people
and help each other make this planet a better place to live!

Hurricane Harvey is a small reminder to remain
Mindful!

Mindfulness Matters!
What will you do today to remain mindful?

Black soliders.
So, how did Memorial Day start? It was on Monday, May 1, 1865, former Black slaves started Memorial Day in America.
This occurred in Charleston, SC to honor 257 dead Union Soldiers who had been buried in a mass grave in a Confederate prison camp. They dug up the bodies and worked for 2 weeks to give them a proper burial as gratitude for fighting for their freedom. Together with teachers and missionaries, Black residents of Charleston organized a May Day ceremony that year which was covered by the New York Tribune and other national papers.
The freedmen cleaned up and landscaped the burial ground, building an enclosure and an arch labeled, "Martyrs of the Race Course." Nearly ten thousand people, mostly freedmen, gathered on May 1 to commemorate the war dead. Involved were about 3,000 Black school children newly enrolled in Freedmen's schools, mutual aid societies, Union troops, Black ministers, and White northern missionaries. Most brought flowers to be placed on the burial field. Years later, the celebration would come to be called the "First Decoration Day" in the North.
David W. Blight described the day: "This was the first Memorial Day. African Americans invented Memorial Day in Charleston, South Carolina. What you have there is black Americans recently freed from slavery announcing to the world with their flowers, their feet, and their songs what the war had been about. What they basically were creating was the Independence Day of a Second American Revolution.”
This story of Memorial Day was not merely excluded from the history books but appears to have been actively suppressed. The park where the race prison camp once stood was eventually named Hampton Park after Confederate General Wade Hampton who became South Carolina’s governor following the civil war.
