Sign Our Letter to Urge Increased Funding for
Emergency Shelters

Help us reach 200 signing organizations!
Housing Action and our allies are urging Governor Pritzker to include a $51 million increase for the Emergency and Transitional Housing (ETH) Program in his upcoming budget proposal.

The ETH Program has long been underfunded, resulting in emergency shelter providers turning away thousands of people—families with children, as well as individuals, disproportionately people of color—because they are at full capacity. The severe shortage of emergency beds for people in crisis has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and current economic conditions.

We’ve prepared a letter with the Illinois Shelter Alliance and the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless to demonstrate widespread support for increased funding; we are seeking sign ons from community-based organizations, mayors and municipal leaders, churches, hospitals, real estate agents, and advocates.

Our goal is to get to 200 organizational signers, and we have more than 150 right now! Will you help us?

Governor JB Pritzker will be introducing his proposed budget for fiscal year 2024 in early 2023. A $51 million increase for the ETH Program would bring total funding to $61.38 million.
